Q1) What are the available file formats ?

1) MP3: MP3 is coding format for digital audio that compresses a sound sequence into very small files, to enable digital storage and transmission.MP3 as a file format commonly designates files containing an elementary stream of MPEG-1 Audio or MPEG-2 Audio encoded data.

2) FLAC: FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is an audio coding format for lossless compression of digital audio. FLAC is a musical file format that offers bit-perfect copies of CDs but at half the size.

3) WAV: WAV(Waveform Audio File Format) is an audio file format standard, developed by IBM and Microsoft, for storing an audio bitstream on PCs. It is the main format used on Microsoft Windows systems for uncompressed audio. A usually uncompressed lossless computer file format used for the storage of digital audio data.

4) ATRAC : ATRAC(Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding) belongs to proprietary audio compression algorithms developed by Sony. ATRAC allowed a relatively small disc like Minidisc to have the same running time as CD while storing audio information with minimal loss in perceptible quality.
Q2) What is a waveform, amplitude and frequency?

1) Waveform: A waveform is a image that represents audio signals or recording and shows the changes that takes place over a certain time. Usually recordings show waveforms to give the user visual idea.
For example: The waveform might be small when a vocalist is singing , but it becomes larger when when a guitar or drum is played .

2) Amplitude : The maximum height of a wave from the middle of the wave to its peak .
For Example: The sound wave produced by a theatre actor while saying its dialogues to the audience has a higher amplitude than the sound wave produced by someone in the audience whispering to their friend.

3) Frequency : An audio frequency or audible frequency is a periodic vibration whose frequency is in the band audible to the average human, the human hearing range. The SI unit of frequency is the hertz.
